Custom Concept Vans offers tire and wheel upgrades, as well as the required modifications to make your new tires work seamlessly on the Sprinter.
Please read the following guide prior to selecting your new tire and wheel package. This information is updated to the best of our knowledge, but is not exhaustive. Custom Concept Vans is not liable for any additional parts required for the installation of the wheel and tire package you select.
When upgrading your Sprinter tires and wheels, there is some important information to be aware of, particularly with the VS30 (2019+) Sprinters.
Please see this link for more information regarding Sprinter tire size changes. You can also use this reference chart for comparing tire/wheel size to actual tire diameter. Here is a summary of information from my experience:
Stock tire/wheel size = 245/75/16 or 16” wheels and 30.5” diameter tires.
275/70/17 or 32.2 diameter is the max size that will work with adaptive cruise control.
With no lift kit installed - all sizes larger than stock will require wheel well trimming/mudflap relocation.
Generally only the front is needed. On lifted vans, or where extra clearance is desired, the rear mudflap may require relocation also.
Contact for current pricing of mudlfap relocation.
Stock tire width is 245mm or 9.6in.
Stock wheel offset:
Factory Steel - 54mm offset
Factory Alloy - 63mm offset
Choosing a wheel with a smaller offset than stock will cause it to stick out further.
Many people like the more aggressive look or stability of a wider tire and commonly choose a 265 (10.4”) or greater tire. On a 144 Sprinter, going with a wider tire than stock and a wheel with a smaller offset may require the use of a slider door hinge spacer to keep the tire from interfering with the slider door opening action. On a 170 Sprinter there is less likelihood for interference, but may exist with wider tires and smaller offsets.
We stock the hinge spacer kit and only install if necessary. Contact us for current pricing of part & installation.
Personally I think the 265/70R17 will give most sprinter owners the larger 17” wheels and the look and feel they are after without affecting performance. This does however require the front mudflap relocation and in some cases the hinge spacer on 144 wheelbase sprinters.
Sprinter 144 Slider Door/Wheel &Tire Compatibility
We are dealers for the following wheels and have found this information with past installations.
Method Race - Typical wheel offset is 50mm. Joined with the 265/70R17 tire these don’t typically require a hinge spacer on a NCV3 or VS30 Sprinter.
Flarespace Stealth Wheels - Wheel offset is 50mm. Joined with the 265/70R17 tire these don’t typically require a hinge spacer on a NCV3 or VS30 Sprinter.
Black Rhino - Typical Offset is 38mm. Joined with the 265/70R17 tire these are likely to require the hinge spacer on a NCV3 Sprinter. On VS30 Sprinters, they will be very close but dependent on the thickness of the door panel used (factory, upholstered w/ fabric only, or fabric + foam).
Owl Wheels - 30mm Offset. Joined with the 265/70R17 tire these will require the hinge spacer on a NCV3 Sprinter and VS30 Sprinter.
Common Tire Choices
BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2 tire - The standard in A/T tire upgrades. Carries the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake winter rating. This tire is especially great for those planning to go off-road.
Falken WildPeak A/T3W - A great tire from a smaller manufacturer. Carries the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake winter rating. Compared to the KO2 - slightly less aggressive for off-road but less noisy for highway driving. Our personal pick for the average sprinter owner looking for a larger tire.
Please consider this with your tire and wheel upgrade decision. We hope this helps and are here to provide professional installation when you are ready for it!
